The Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington is a network of more than 400 vetted charities; they are nonprofits with budgets below $4 million that serve the environment, arts, education and human services throughout Greater Washington.
Since 2003, the Catalogue has raised over $40 million dollars for the Washington, D.C., region. ASPR is proud to serve as the media relations consultant to the Catalogue. This work has included connecting president and editor Barbara Harman to top-tier media including The Washington Post, WJLA ABC 7/NewsChannel 8, WUSA 9, Washington Life and Washington Jewish Week. We were especially excited and proud when Washingtonian magazine named Harman one of the “Washingtonians of the Year” in 2016.
A long-term engagement effort directed at The Washington Post’s “Just Asking” column in the Sunday magazine resulted in a feature story that has attracted additional interest in the Catalogue’s work. Additional efforts have led to new connections to the Post’s editorial page.
A public service announcement was created and has run multiple times on ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8 in the market, reaching hundreds of thousands of viewers. In 2017, ASPR was proud to help the Catalogue celebrate its 15th anniversary which included the presentation of a proclamation from the D.C. Council praising the nonprofit for its efforts. We also helped secure and coordinate the appearance of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (below) in the community celebration of #GivingTuesday.
Recently, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, a positive editorial was secured in The Washington Post, praising the Catalogue and its network for making a difference.
